About Us.

BCMB Camps exists to facilitate Christian camping ministry throughout the Province of British Columbia in partnership with the BC Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches.  It is our purpose to support local camps in their mission to minister to their guests and campers in a Christian environment and to the praise and glory of God.

Our mission is to support the local church in evangelism, nurturing disciples, and developing leaders.  We are very excited about the ministry potential that our five camps have collectively, in their immediate communities, in our BCMB Conference, and in our province.

WHERE WE STARTED

1958 Camp Society & Columbia Bible Camp (Stillwood)

Mennonite Brethren Camping in BC started in the mid 1950s with the vision of Rev Abe H Wieler. Abe’s vision became reality in 1958 with the forming of a Camp Society that started Columbia Bible Camp on 60 acres above the south end of Cultus Lake. Columbia was renamed Stillwood Camp and Conference Centre in July 2000. In 2001 two neighbouring farms were purchased by donors extending our ministry potential to a total of 100 acres. Stillwood is located south of Chilliwack.

1963 Pines Bible Camp

Pines Bible Camp was our next camp, started in 1963 by the George Martens family. George along with his wife Erna began their ministry in Grand Forks with the purpose of reaching out to the children of Grand Forks for God. Campouts were started at Christina Lake first for boys only. George began looking for “about 5 acres” of permanent property and as usual God showed up. In 1962 164 acres were purchased just north of Grand Forks for $3,500 which was paid off within the first year.

1974 Gardom Lake Bible Camp

Gardom Lake Bible Camp ministry started in 1974 on 72 acres that were donated to the BCMB Conference by a Mr. Dobel. In the early days neighbouring churches helped develop Gardom, but shortly only the MB churches continued. This allowed for a unified vision to build a facility and develop a program where children can grow in all aspects of their lives. Gardom is located between Salmon Arm and Enderby.

1975 Likely Chapel Bible Camp (Camp Likely)

Likely Chapel Bible Camp was started in 1975 by Jim and Sharon Potter along with a small group from the Likely Chapel on the shores of Faux Bay, Lake Quesnel. The camp moved several hundred metres east to its present location where our BCMB Camps alongside Cariboo Bethel church took over operation in 2006. Sitting on 7 acres of leased land from the Ministry of Lands, Likely Chapel Bible Camp was renamed Camp Likely shortly after we took over the ministry. Camp Likely is located about two hours east of Williams Lake.

1995 Campfire Ministries (Camp Bob)

Campfire Ministries (Camp Bob) began in 1995 as an outreach program of The Black Creek Community Church on Vancouver Island.  Over the first few years, the program existed as a summer day camp in various locations.  In 2002 they began their relationship with the Ministry of Forests on Roberts Lake and Camp Bob was started.  They currently have a 30 year lease for 65 acres.  Camp Bob is located just north of Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

People often think of camps as Entertainment. But we consider Camps an Investment in our Next Generation.

“…we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done.” Psalm 78:4

It is our purpose to support local camps in their mission to minister to their guests and campers in a Christian environment and to the praise and glory of God.

Crucial to this purpose is our relationship with our local churches. Together, we can impact our communities and our province with the Word of God.
